Amen Tara-Leigh Cobble!
Hey Bible Readers!
God Bless!
Well Solomon - accrued many, many, horses, married foreign wives, built places for pagan gods, and had a huge gold shields and on on. He never had enough. He saw a woman and he acquired her and cast her into a harem. Yikes. Solomon wasn't too smart. He lost the kingdom and then Israel was split up . Wow. He started out so strong. Little by little his kingdom, his mind and his self serving wants, overtook him. Queen of Sheba wasn't a god-fearing woman, but she realized it was God that blessed Solomon.
This was definitely unexpected. Thank you for helping us see the blessing and Who God is 🥹
Aloha and good morning BR family. This was an awesome reminder how easily we can be influenced by others, just like Solomon. Wisdom not only from God, but it points us back to God. I love how is a forgiven God, all we to do is ask for forgiveness. Prase the Lord all day for his mercy is forever. He will never leave or forsake us. He is where the JOY is!! 🙏
My pastor has a sermon series on the churches mentioned in Revelation. You can find it on UA-cam, the Cure Church Lee's Summit
I find it interesting that God promises Jeroboam to make him a dynasty like David IF he follows God's commands and walk in His ways. like David did.
Proverbs 31 also had servants so she can accomplish a lot
Question, this is mostly for people within the church, how about when the person who sinned against us in an unbeliever? I would let them know how they sinned against me, ask God to help me forgive them and leave it with God. If the person asks for forgiveness then I would forgive. But would I let/keep a person who keeps hurting me in my inner circle? Here is where we need wisdom. Lord Jesus help me, help us be your hand extended in this world. Help us show grace to our enemies and kindness to those who are unkind to us. We pray for them and for ourselves. In Jesus name.
I've read the Bible and various other religious text. Evil men and women can also put on an act of piety when they are, in fact, focused on power and/or money. People who are not Christians are not automatically evil, as you suggest. Many are kind people who do all the can to help others, just FYI.
I'd be a zechariah asking so many questions lol
God gave Solomon such great wisdom that people traveled from all over to hear it (I Kgs10:21, 2 Ch 8:23). The Queen of Sheba even praised God because of the wisdom Solomon had from God (1 Kgs 10:9, 2 Ch 9:8).
It is so very encouraging to see so many reading through the Bible. As a teenager I was hit and miss on reading my Bible, I read many books from the Bible, primarily New testament and Psalms but when I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior, at age 29, The Holy Spirit gave me a hunger for the word and I read through cover to cover. I've read cover to cover maybe 15 times over the years, rereading many of my favorite books multiple times. Then came the lean years, where I Lost my hunger, partly due to my own rebellion and circumstances. This year however, The Lord has drawn me back to his word, hallelujah! All my previous years of reading I never did it with commentary, this is my first time using an app, at 61 I have been a bit technologically challenged, lol, and I have thoroughly enjoyed having commentary from Tara Leigh.
It’s kind of hip and cool to call God’s magnificent provision a “scandal of grace,” when God gives riches to us, and even His own Son, when He knows we don’t deserve any of it. But it’s not really a “scandal” if no one says, “God, stop! You’re not supposed to give us what we don’t deserve!” And yet, he knows that 1 Kings 11 follows chapter 10-that as He is piling on unheard of wealth, wisdom, and honor, that Solomon will betray Him. God knew Adam would betray Him even though they walked in the garden together. And to my shock, God draws me close even when He knows I’ll sin. I don’t get that. He’s not “scandalous”; He’s forgiving, and He delights in delighting me, the way that my wife and I love delighting each other with gifts and surprises. We’ll never give up on each other, because God models faithfulness, and humility and grace. Solomon himself said that God’s wisdom is better than gold and honey, and every day we have the chance to become more and more wealthy in wisdom in loving the Lord, even though He knows when we’ll make our next mistake. What a rich King of Kings!
Great picture of God's grace and your comment was eye opening. Thank you.
Amen!
Great recap TLC however did some research and sheep actually have great eyesight and good memories. Contrary to popular belief it says they are quite smart. Perhaps their downfall is their inclination to follow other sheep. 🥴
It's important for us to remember that He is in charge of who is in charge and He positions power. He uses it all to establish His kingdom, even when we can't see that or understand His plan. As she said, He has purposes we can't understand sometimes, but they're always righteous, good, and loving. Maybe it's the terrible reign of power that will bring more hearts to repentance! ❤
God reveals what people’s intentions are when we ask Holy Spirit to guide us.
The Queen of Sheba visits Solomon. This pagan queen praises God for Solomon and his wealth and wisdom. She sees God as the source of it all. Scripture tells us that God put wisdom in Solomon‘s mind. There is no wisdom apart from God. He owns all wisdom. Anyone who has wisdom got it from God. James 1.2 says if any man likes wisdom he should ask of God who gives generously to all who ask. Wisdom is from God and it points us back to God. Despite Solomon wisdom he is not entirely obedient to God. Solomon collects gold, horses, and women. This is in direct defiance of Duet.17 Women was Solomon’s blind spot. He married and associated with women who turned his heart away from God. Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. The Bible is descriptive here telling us what Solomon did. It is not prescriptive- God’s will. It was not God’s will for Solomon to have multiple wives amd concubines. Solomon’s heart is turned astray from God. Solomon even makes places of worship for other idols/ gods. Moloch was one that child sacrifices were made to. This is the man who built God’s temple! Solomons heart turned. He did not wholly follow the Lord. The Bible recounts David, Solomon’s father, as one who obeyed God. Look at God’s heart of forgiveness towards David. Because David turned back to God after he sinned God completely forgives him. David had consequences for his sin. But David had complete forgiveness for his sin. The heart of God is amazing. God punishes Solomon’s disobedience while still keeping His promises to David. God raises up an enemy to punish Solomon. God owns positions of power. He establishes rulers. He works out everything we can’t see. He has purposes beyond what we can see. God is trustworthy.
I really like the translation of ‘hevel’ to ‘smoke’ instead of ‘meaningless.’ I think that it captures the attitude we should hold for our life on Earth. Vacations, dinners with family and friends, work, our day-to-day life; these things are good! Like smoke, they can be beautiful and enjoyable (I’m thinking candle or woodsmoke, to fill y’all in on my mental picture). But like smoke, the problem comes when instead of enjoying it, we try to reach out and grab it. These things are beautiful, and God gave us the ability to enjoy them for a reason, but they are not stable. We cannot hold onto them, and the wind of the world will blow these things away. They are not permanent. God IS. HE is not smoke. We can hold onto Him, we can chase after Him; He’s not going anywhere. We don’t have to worry about Him disappearing. I think we can (and should) enjoy the smoke in our lives, so long as we remember what it is and focus on chasing after our Unchanging God.
First time through!!! Can’t wait to dive in again!
Wisdom comes from God! James 3:17 - But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. ❤
❤🙏🏼
Ecclesiastes 9:11 NLT [11] I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time. Ecclesiastes 11:9 NLT [9] Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do.
This was a tough read. I think I understand what you said in the beginning better now. We may not always understand what God is doing, but it all has a purpose. I just have to hang in there on these tough days.
God is our protector we just have to trust him in our life he is where the joy is.
The imagery of Jesus coming with fire and with His chariot in today’s reading brought tears to my eyes!
Have a blessed day in His Presence 🙌🏾🤗❤️💯He is where the Joy is ❤️💯
Amen. It’s all Him.
2024, reading this a second time, makes more sense to me. Our job is to obey God. A heart at peace. Yes, walking with God. ❤
2024;Hé is where the Joy is. Amen; What God sets in motion is immovable. 😊
Reading Ecclesiastes makes me especially happy that we know what lies beyond the grave and that death is not the end. Praise God for that knowledge and glad to be finished with this book.
Love this book of the Bible!
Amen Tara-Leigh Cobble!
God , thank You for always being there for me. You never leave me nor forsake me. Sure need you today. Amen
2024; yes, thank You for Your Boldness; I need Your boldness. Father. I receive it.❤
Hey Bibke Readers!
God bless The Bible Recap and all the viewers.
11:5 so good!
I'm no so sure it's Solomon who wrote this section. He had more joy in Proverbs and how he celebrated with his kingdom. Ecc. Has many good advice nuggets but he's not too happy with women. God wants us to see His beautiful creations. Find the joy. So...
2024; yes, patience and humility. Self control, Father; I repent when I fail. Amen. I know You are always there to pick me up. Thank You for guiding me and showing me discernment. Lord, I truest you. Your timing is perfect .🙏
You know I just realized that God was broken hearted. His feelings are hurt. He loves them so much and they stomped on his heart so to speak. 😢
Catching up , Tara. A blessed day. I❤ Father, You are so good ; Your mercy, I just do not know how I would move forward with You. Amen
Yes, M’y Lord will reign forever ❤
2024; God , thank You for Your daily blessings . ❤ I trust You Lord; my heart is healed; my blood pressure is perfect. I thank You for Jesus. Thank You Lord for Your strength, Your victory and salvation. ❤
Aloha and good morning BR family. Glory be to God for his presence in my life. Another day to praise and thank God. He has blessed me with an awesome day reading, sharing and understanding His words. I can have a heart of peace because of my faith and trust in God. He is where the JOY is!!!
